POEM OF THE DAY
Just Because My Socks Don't Match

Just because my socks don't match,
Doesn't mean I'm blind,
It doesn't mean I don't have fashion,
I just invent my own kind,

Some people think it's funny,
Some people think it's odd,
But when I pass them in the hallway,
I just smile and nod,

I don’t wear them because they smell nice,
Cause that would be just crazy,
It's not because I don't bother to match,
Cause that would be just lazy,

I wear them to express,
My individuality,
Cause when my socks don't match,
I know I’m being me!

Truth

Truth is the knock on your door
and when you open it he smiles
and says,
"So sorry to disturb you,
but we have some bad news"
And he takes off his hat
and shows his face
which is as clear as a window
you see right into it.
Truth looks at you and can't lie
he tell you
what you can't bear to hear
His words scald you
burning with the reality
he walks out and leaves you
with the knowledge
only truth brings.

Who Says It's Spring

The sun does
By shining its golden light on us.

The ground does
By soaking up the beautiful white snow.

The lakes do
By melting their sparkly ice.

Dandelions do
By spreading their fuzzy seeds.

Front yards do
As the smiling snowmen melt away.

Flowers do
As they bloom in joy.

Children do
As they play in happiness.

The Moon

As I look into the night sky
I see something round, shiny,
white and bright,
like a ball rolling through the sky,
leading me everywhere,
shining like a lamp
guiding me like a friend
who knows the way
Sometimes full, sometimes half
or crescent
but always there.

The Night Sky

It darkens the night
like the covers over your head,
The stars comfort you
like the softness of your bed,
Moonlight that guides you
through your dreams,
Breeze that soothes you
like when your mother sings.

Welcome!

Every famous writer started somewhere. You can start here. Enter our poetry or essay contests and get published. Unlike many contests, Creative Communication is selective and you can consider it an honor if we accept your work. With several contests a year, you have many opportunities to amaze us with your writing. We publish thousands of student writers each year, so send us your poems and essays and see if you can get your name in print and win your share of the prizes.

Why should students enter our contest? Our teachers say it best
You are the best children's publishing group I work with. In fact, you are the only one I enter my students in because you are fair and select poems that deserve to be in your book. Also, you really prove to my students that they ARE writers.

This is the second year I have chosen to send entries for the contest. It is an excellent tool for motivation and stimulates an appreciation for poetry. I am pleased with the results and wish to continue entering each year. It has proven to be a self-esteem booster for my students and stirs a sense of energy I have found hard to generate from regular instruction in the classroom. My students have found a purpose for writing, and I have you to thank for creating such an opportunity.

There are hundreds of "student writing contests."
Here is why we are different:
  1. We are run by teachers and educators.

  2. There are no entry fees or required purchase.

  3. We evaluate each entry so it is an honor to be accepted.

  4. We pride ourselves on keeping teachers and students informed.
