My Son Was So Excited
" My son was so excited when he opened your letter telling him that his poem was being published. I, as his very proud mother, wanted to write you and tell you the story behind the poem. He had just found out that he had cancer about two weeks before he wrote that poem. One day while he was in the Children's Hospital, they brought his mail to him, which included a package of graded papers his teachers had mailed to him. I opened it for him and we were looking through them, this was the first time I had read his poem and I cried like a baby. It made me realize that he had really accepted his cancer and I knew he would fight as hard as he could to get better so he could go back to the things he loves most in life. I am happy to report that his cancer is gone. His body is still recovering, but he looks and feels great! "
